Aliens...again (and a bear)

Another very vivid dream involving the Geiger-style aliens, although I think my subconcious mixed the genre with the "Predator" story a bit. This time I was at a remote outpost in some large, forested national park or science station of some kind. The ambience was very like that of the Nostromo in the first "Alien" film, right down to the cast of characters. One sunny day I was standing out on a ridge, when I heard a distant roar and saw some kind of spacecraft entering our atmosphere. It even had a parachute! As I tracked its progress across the sky, a schematic with dynamic readout was superimposed over it, as if I were watching a movie and was seeing the POV of some kind of instrument. It touched down in a large lake down in a distant valley, and I knew this was a bad thing.

When I told the others what I had seen, a bit of a panic ensued. Ripley and Capt. Dallas calmed everybody down, and they discussed how they would not make the mistakes they had made in the "Alien" movie. Sounds like my subconcious is now employing Jasper Fforde's "bookworld" dynamic! I particularly remember squeezing Lambert's shoulders and reassuring her that we were going to be fine if we all pulled together. Meanwhile, out in a sun-baked desert somewhere, a raggedly dressed man was running toward our part of the world. I can't remember if he was the victim of a plane crash, or if he had been living out there, but now he knew he had to get to our "base".

Also, down in the civilized world (the valley) an Indian (played by Chief Dan George) was riding a grey horse like mad and doing tricks as he rode. I thought at first he was performing, but then it seems he was being chased. He was finally rounded up by some modern white folks, who couldn't understand his language. They bundled him into a car to drive him up to our base. I knew he was important to our scheme. He had crossed over from the ancient past and had some kind of knowledge that could help us.

Now I was driving in the car at night, trying to get back to the base, but I was having a hard time finding the right turnoff. I finally asked a park ranger who gave me directions. Now at the base, we were shoring up doors and windows and preparing for a seige. I remember the alien trying to knock a thin wooden door open at some point, he even got some fingers around the edge, and then his snout poked in and I ducked to avoid the secondary jaws, but I put all my weight against it and finally got it shut. We needed to shore that one up for sure! I was starting to feel a bit anxious, but then I woke up.

A week or so ago I had this dream and never got round to writing it down: Standing in the woods with my little brother near a house, I see a huge Grizzly bear come around a bend in the path. He sees us and looks about to charge. I tell brother to run away fast, which he does. I yell and wave my arms to draw the bear's attention, he charges at me and I run toward the house and curl up on the ground when he catches up with me. He snuffles at me, his head is HUGE. He paws at me a bit, then lies down next to me. I stroke his fur and it's very soft, like a rabbit (only thicker and longer). I think the bear has taken a shine to me and wonder how I can sneak away...

When I woke from the Alien dream last night, I instantly had a clear idea of what it was saying to me. I could be all wrong, but this is what popped in to my head at 0325: The alien is quite literally a "bete noir", and in this case represents the lump on my throat that showed up a few weeks ago. We don't know what it is, but it doesn't go away and might be a bad thing. The Indian is "old knowledge" or "anti-establishment knowledge", and seems to represent "alternative" or "natural" medicine. The upshot seems to me to be that I should focus on managing my overall health, plus find out what this lump is and then talk to a natural health professional about what to do.
